Denmark:  Among several other nations, Denmark is considered one of the best countries when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic’s excess mortality, according to Statens Serum Institut (SSI).

The figures have been provided by the international statistics bank Our World in Data. As per the data, it has been analysed that only Australia and New Zealand have performed better among 18 countries selected in the excess mortality statistics from 1st March 2020 to 27th March 2022.

The figure for excess mortality depicts the number of fatalities in comparison to the number of deaths predicted based on past years.

Excess mortality in Denmark is 1,454, whereas, in New Zealand and Australia, the figures are both minus, indicating that the actual number of fatalities during that time period was lower than expected.

At least 80% of people in all of the three nations mentioned above have received a coronavirus vaccination.

“It is amazingly satisfying that we have survived a two-year pandemic with such low excess mortality while now having a fully reopened society.”

The director of SSI, Henrik Ullum, went on to say that if we compare with other nations and analyse the data, we can see that the high vaccination rate has been crucial to this success.

Moreover, the Health Authorities of Denmark changed its recommendations in March on when individuals with suspected Covid-19 should be tested for the coronavirus, stating that testing should only be done if there is a “specific medical reason.”

According to official data, 1,350 new cases of Covid-19 were reported yesterday. The positive cases were found among 11,870 PCR tests.

In Denmark, 700 patients with Covid-19 are now in hospitals. This figure is on the decline after peaking at over 1,500 in early March.

A significant number of these individuals are not being treated for coronavirus and are in the hospital for other reasons.

A total of 6,072 individuals have succumbed to COVID-19 after testing positive in the country.
