Russia-Ukraine War: A series of explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, early on October 10 after months of peace in the capital city. The attacks came after Russian President Vladimir Putin termed the explosion of the Crimean bridge an act of terrorism administered by the Ukrainian military special services.

The attacks left at least eight killed and 24 severely injured, according to preliminary information, said Rostyslav Smirnov, an adviser to the Ukrainian ministry of internal affairs.

The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, informed about the blasts in Shevchenko’s district, a large central area which is a historic old town with several government offices operating in its vicinity.

A Ukrainian MP, Lesia Vasylenko, noted that at least one explosion occurred near the main building of Kyiv National University in central Kyiv.

Kyiv city has been relatively calm as it was in June when the city was last attacked by the Russian forces or artilleries. Russia had previously targeted the various locations in the outskirts of Kyiv city, but the strikes on Monday had targeted the central part of Ukraine.

Other than central Kyiv, the explosions occurred in other locations, namely Lviv, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr in western Ukraine and Dnipro in central Ukraine.

Russia has been targeting the northern parts of Crimea, including Zaporizhzhia. On Saturday, the Russian missiles struck the residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, killing at least 17 civilians and leaving dozens severely injured.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, was due to attend a meeting with his security council when the Ukrainian capital and other cities were attacked.
