Dominica: Melissa Skerrit to promote digital education in country
Roseau, Dominica: The Parliamentary representative of the Roseau Central of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Melissa Poponne Skerrit will be working towards advancing the technological education in the country. In this initiative, she would be assisted throughout by the Ministry of Public Works of Dominica, with an aim to advance the level of education for the development of people as well as the nation.
As Melissa Skerrit updated, the new educational course will include the basic technological curriculum that revolves around coding, web development, fundamentals of software designing and designing web applications.
Notably, the initiative from Melissa Skerrit is in line with the Caribbean Digital Transformation Project, which aims to make Caribbean Nations digitally and technologically competitive.
Following are the courses that The course includes the following in the curriculum:
1. Introduction to Web Development
2. HTML and CSS Basics
3. JavaScript Fundamentals
4. Introduction to Web Application Frameworks
5. Deploying and Maintaining Web Applications
6. Best Practices in Web Development
The course on Web Designing will begin on March 13, 2023, with the Ministry holding sessions on Web Designing course twice a week between 5:30 PM-7:30 PM.
While sharing the aforementioned update, Melissa Skerrit gave a special mention to David Warlick, who stressed the importance of the inclusion of technology in education, stating:
“We need to have technology in every classroom, for every student and teacher because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we can get to experience much of our world.” The words from Warlick have been inspirational for the Ministry, which has followed a similar vision with the launch of this campaign.
