Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit welcomes Mexican delegation from AMEXCID

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, welcomed the Mexican delegation from the Agency for International Development Cooperation on March 23, 2023. The Mexican delegation was headed by its Executive Director, Dr Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas.

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, welcomed the Mexican delegation from the Agency for International Development Cooperation(AMEXCID) on March 23, 2023. The Mexican delegation was headed by its Executive Director, Dr Laura Elena Carrillo Cubillas.

Alongside the Executive Director, Ambassador Designate of the United Mexican States to Dominica and Special Envoy of Mexico, Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno and the General Director of the Ambassador Designate of the United Mexican States to Dominica and Special Envoy of Mexico, Actuary Gloria Sandoval Salas and other officials of AMEXCID were present.

As the head of the Dominican Government stated, the discussions at the meeting revolved around multiple aspects, one of which was the evaluation of the progress of the Mexico-CARICOM-FAO Initiative- “Cooperation for adaptation and resilience to climate change in the Caribbean”.

In addition to this, the parties looked forward to the success of the Fifth Mexico-CARICOM Summit, which is set to be held in May 2023. The officials seek to carry forward the CARICOM-Mexico cooperation in diverse fields, which include Climate Resilience, Development of Technology, and Upliftment of the Health sector with the infusion of world-class technology and infrastructure.

The Summit previously focussed on the agricultural sector, mitigating the risk of disasters, combating organized crime and developing an Integrated Risk Management Strategy for the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the AMEXCID took to Twitter, where she noted her interaction with the Housing Minister of Dominica, Melissa Poponne Skerrit, during which they discussed various areas of cooperation and the prospects for their further expansion.

Additionally, she held a working session with the officials of the Dominica Fisheries Division and discussed the opportunities and the challenges to the sector.
