Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, made an announcement regarding the reconstruction work of a new school. The name of the school is New Goodwill Secondary School. The reconstruction work will be executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation(CCECC).
The contractor of the work will demolish the existing building of the school, which is in very poor condition. It is to be specifically mentioned that the New Goodwill Secondary School will be one of the six schools that are being constructed under Chinese assistance.
The Chinese assistance was meant to reconstruct the school after the Post-Hurricane called “Maria.”
PM Roosevelt Skerrit stated that this would be one of the best schools in the region after its completion. Additionally, this will be designated as a centre for the excellence of technical and vocational education.
The skill training that will be imparted under the technical and vocational education will include various courses.
These will include food preparation, electricity and electrical installation, garment production, fabric design, technical drawing, auto mechanics, visual and performing arts/music, industrial arts, refrigeration and air conditioning, among other standard features.
On the construction site, workers are busy completing the work within a short period of time. Earth-moving machines were also deployed by the employer.
On the one hand, the machines were doing the work, and at the same time, workers were busy with measurement work. Some were removing the rubble to clear the site.
PM Skerrit took to social media to inform the general public about the progress of the project.
Many social media users hailed the announcement by the Prime Minister. One user, Madame Wob Dwiyet Cancda Inc., Commented that “vocational education is another key to success”.
People also expressed happiness that the Government of Dominica has realised the potential of skill and vocational education and is making the best of the country’s youth.
