Tbilisi: A 13-year-old girl lost her life, due to injuries she had sustained from an electrocution incident in Tbilisi’s recreational Vake Park. The death of the minor has been confirmed by the doctors of the University Clinic in Tbilisi.
In the incident that happened earlier, three minors had sustained injuries while trying to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the recently renovated fountain in the park. One of those children is known to be in a serious condition and currently undergoing artificial ventilation at the New Hospitals clinic in the city.
The third victim of the incident has been admitted to Children’s Central Hospital with minor injuries.
Consequently, the Georgian Interior Ministry has opened up the investigation procedures under the “breach of safety regulations during the placement design, construction or other works”. The investigating agency, so far, has summoned several individuals involved in their list of culprits of the unfortunate incident.
The mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, has expressed his “deep sorrow” for the unfortunate incident that took place in Vake Park. Further, he has named Green service as a major contractor in the renovation tasks of the popular park, with the recreational area reopening to the public on Wednesday.
As per the mayor, the work on the infrastructure was completed a long time before the opening of the park, and all the verifications had been conducted before it was made open for the public. The incident has left the citizens shocked.
Mayor has vowed to strictly punish those who’d be found responsible for the incident.
The second phase of the cascade and fountain renovation in Vake Park was completed on Wednesday. The City Hall has spent ₾6,500,000 ($2.3mln ) on the project.
