Georgia: The
Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Georgia has revealed 14 people who were involved in handling personal life secrets, removing files on minors’ private lives, and arrested 5 of them.
According to the SIS, one of the arrested suspects, identified as L. Sh., was born in 1995 and lived in the
Tsalki district. He created a fake social network page and communicated with three underage girls in May and September of 2023.
He gained their trust and coerced them to send him photos and videos of intimate content. He then posted some of the pictures on his fake page and blackmailed the victims to send more.
L. Sh. was charged with handling the secret of private life on the basis of a gender-related disturbance, which carries a maximum sentence of 8 years in prison.
The SIS also opened another case of exposing the privacy of a minor victim and found three people in the crime. They were 14-year-old boys who shared intimate photos and videos of a schoolgirl via “Facebook Messenger”. The images were then circulated among the girl’s classmates, violating her privacy.
The other ten people who were seen in the crime had relationships with victims through social networks at different times. They obtained intimate photos and videos of the victims’ private lives on mobile phones and social networks. Also, they sent them to the victims’ relatives and others using various social networks.
The SIS said that it treated the victims and ensured that the investigation and operational measures were carried out in a short period of time. The SIS also said that it continues to work actively to uncover privacy facts and raise awareness of minors.
The SIS has a hotline at 199, where all victims can leave a message or contact the SIS offices.
