Imereti, Georgia: The Georgian Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, under the framework of the program “Environmental and Agrarian Education in School,” Trained 1400 teachers in Imereti on environmental and agricultural issues.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, and the Deputy State Commissioner in Imereti, Levan Kiknavelidze, met with teachers trained in the Imereta region. The trained teachers were awarded certificates and an auxiliary manual titled “Environmental and Agrarian Education in School.”

“Teachers are actively working in the learning process to integrate environmental and agricultural issues, providing young people with information on biodiversity, climate change, waste management, food security, and other important issues, which motivates students to be interested in the professions that are lacking today,” says Solomon Pavliashvili.

The Environmental Information and Education Center prepared the “Environmental and Agrarian Education in School” auxiliary manual for teachers. The textbook covers important environmental and agricultural education issues and is easily adaptable for primary school students (Grades I-VI).

As part of the program, young people acquire basic knowledge on essential issues such as sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, water conservation, air pollution protection, climate change and natural hazard reduction, waste management, land management and wilderness combating, sustainable agriculture, food security, and quality.

The process of training primary-level teachers will continue in the new academic year, demonstrating our commitment to integrating the ‘Environmental and Agrarian Education in School‘ program into the school environment and fostering a generation of environmentally conscious citizens.

For the first time, the Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture started training teachers within the framework of the “Environmental and Agrarian Education at School” program in 2021. To date, around 6,000 elementary school teachers have been trained.
