Tbilisi: The first meeting of the Georgian Environment Program Commission was held recently. First Deputy Minister of Environment and Rural Protection Nino Tandilashvili inaugurated the meeting.
It is to be noted that the Environmental Program “Environmental Responsibility” has been established on the basis of Georgian law. The main goals of the program is to prevent damage to the environment, restore the damaged environment, improve environmental protection measures and provide financial assistance for ecological research activities.
Similarly In order to manage the environmental program, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia has established a warning body, the Environmental Program Commission. The task is to Implement the recommendations provided by law on the implementation of environmental measures within the Environmental Program.
First Deputy Minister of Environment and Rural Protection Nino Tandilashvili speaking on the occasion said that the Ministry is very concerned for the protection of the environment and atmosphere as well.
He also said that enviornment protection is very inmporant as the entire world is facing the threat of climnate change and global warming.
At the meeting of the Committee on Environment Program it was decided that a working group will be established to study proposals under the Environmental Program, identify priority directions and make recommendations to the Commission on the generation of funding.
The minister also said that to protect the Georgian environment, the Ministry is making many efforts in this direction. He also said that more programs and schemes will be launched.
He also said that more awareness drives will also be launched to make the citizens aware of the importance of environmental protection. The Minister further stated that these awareness campaigns had played a great role in the past.
It is Noteworthy Georgian Government have already declared many areas of the country as protected areas. The main aim of the creation of the protected areas is to protect the flora and fauna of the country.
