In Georgia, the press office of the alliance announced on Monday, March 14, that Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze will take part in a meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) ministers of defence on Wednesday in Brussels.

Along with his Ukrainian, Finnish and Swedish counterparts and Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Burchuladze are set to meet NATO counterparts at the alliance’s headquarters in Brussels.

Moreover, prior to the meeting, the Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will issue a joint statement, after which the meeting of the Georgian, Ukrainian, Finnish and Swedish Defence Ministers is scheduled with Borrell and the North Atlantic Council.

In mid-February, the Georgian Defense Minister, along with his Ukrainian colleague Oleksii Reznikov, held several high-level meetings with foreign partners and gave a speech at a NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels, emphasising support and solidarity for Ukraine and noting the two countries’ shared security challenges.

Furthermore, North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s “enhanced involvement” in the Black Sea region amid growing security challenges and reforms being undertaken in Georgia’s defence sector was on the plan as the defence minister of Georgia, Juansher Burchuladze, met Secretary-General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg at the alliance’s headquarters in Brussels.

Held during the NATO defence ministerial, the session saw the Georgian minister and Stoltenberg discuss common security challenges and current threats from Russia in the region.
