On Monday, Georgia celebrated the fifth anniversary of its visa-free travel agreement with the European Union.
On this day, five years ago, the regulation removing visa restrictions for Georgians traveling to EU and Schengen Area countries went into effect.
Moreover, Georgian citizens with biometric passports are eligible for visa-free travel to the EU/Schengen Zone for 90 days within a 180-day period, which can be used for tourism, family visits, or business.
However, suppose you are a national from Kosovo, Taiwan, and Palestine. In that case, you will be refused entry— you won’t even be allowed to transit unless you hold a residence visa from UAE.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili marked the occasion by stating that Georgian nationals have paid over 1.5 million visits to EU countries since the implementation of visa-free travel, calling the figure a “concrete, tangible result after the signing of Georgia’s 2014 Association Agreement with the European Union.”
According to the head of Government, the Georgian government “spared no effort” to efficiently implement the “irreversible choice” of the Georgian people for European integration.
Georgia PM Irakli Garibashvili also took it to Twitter to express his happiness by stating,” Today marks the 5th anniversary of #visafree regime with – historic achievement and another step on’s European integration path. Our Government spares no effort to effectively implement irreversible European choice of Georgian people, ultimately leading to country’s membership!”

Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Davit Zalkaliani, described the visa-free travel for Georgian nationals as an opportunity to “take major steps forward” on the country’s EU integration path.
In his own remarks on the date, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili described the EU travel agreement as a “vital” and “tangible benefit” for Georgian nationals.
Celebratory visuals are shown in streets throughout the country to mark the occasion between March 27-29.
