Kyiv, Ukraine: The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Ukrainian military has recaptured some areas and repelled 11 Russian attacks in Donbas last night.
As per the information provided by General Staff, the Ukrainian troops have destroyed eight enemy tanks and five armoured vehicles.
Ukrainian officials said that five people were slain and at least 25 more wounded in the shelling of cities in the Donbas in the past 24 hours.
Moreover, the armed forces of Ukraine have largely stalled Russian advances in the eastern part of Ukraine.
At the same time, the General Staff says that the occupiers continue to block the units of the Mariupol Defense Forces on the territory of the Azovstal factory, and in some areas, the Russians launched an airstrike to control Azovstal.
According to the General Staff, the main efforts of the occupiers were aimed to take full control over the Popasna settlement.
In addition, the occupiers resumed attacks on the settlements of Diman and Siversky.
Furthermore, a UN and Red Cross convoy heads to the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol to evacuate the citizens. The statement is issued by the UN humanitarian director Martin Griffith.
The humanitarian convoy is expected to arrive on the spot in the morning.
Griffith went on to say that the United Nations and the Red Cross were able to evacuate more than 340 citizens from different parts of Mariupol.
“Today, as we speak, the convoy is leaving to reach Azovstal tomorrow morning. “We hope to bring the citizens who remain in the horrible hell where they lived for many weeks and months and bring them to a safe place,” Griffith said.
According to the available information, about 200 citizens, which includes at least 20 children, are still in the factory and are unable to leave.
The Ukrainians said occupied forces of Russia have pushed into the plant and were also bombing it. However, the Kremlin denied that there was any ground attack.
