Georgia: First large-scale project for development of water systems in Adjara is underway

Within the framework of the project, approximately 30,000 people living in 39 additional villages in Adjara will be able to use modern standard systems.

The population of Adjara will benefit from a 24-hour continuous water supply and a well-maintained drainage system.

The presentation of the large-scale project was held in the village of Ochkhamur, Kobuleti municipality.

With the project, rehabilitation works will be carried out in Mukhaestate farm settlement, Lower Kvirike, Chakvistavi, Tskhetsauri, Ochkhamur and Jikhanjur in Kobuleti municipality.

11,954,784 euros will be spent for the rehabilitation of the water supply and drainage infrastructure in Kobuleti municipality. Up to 1,600 families will benefit from the updated communal infrastructure in Kobuleti municipality.

Special wells will be arranged for continuous water supply of Ochkhamuri, Tskhauri and Jikhanjur settlements. One water purifier and five artificial swamp-type wastewater treatment facilities will be built, as well as a 600 m3 water reservoir.

Within the framework of the project, a utility enterprise will start operating in Kobuleti, which will provide the maintenance of the rehabilitated water supply and drainage infrastructure. Special equipment and materials necessary for operation have already been purchased.

Currently, an international tender is being held for the provision of water supply and water infrastructure of modern standards in 39 villages of Adjara. The tender is in the final stage; after evaluating the information submitted by the companies, the winner will be announced, after which the construction works will begin. Rehabilitation works will be carried out simultaneously in 39 villages of Adjara.

The communal infrastructure development project in Adjara is implemented with the financial support of KfW Bank and the European Union. The budget of the large-scale project is 59.5 million euros.
