Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili attended a high level meeting with the United Nations Organization(UNO) on the Zero Waste Initiative.
The meeting was held on the initiative of the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, within the framework of the 2022 resolution (77/161) “Supporting zero waste initiatives for sustainable development Agenda 2030″. This resolution was adopted by the United Nations on December 14, 2022. The resolution garnered support from 105 countries, including Georgia as well.
The necessity of implementing joint programs and projects for implementing the concept was discussed at a working meeting held within the framework of the event, where the parties agreed on a specific action plan, of which Georgia will be an active participant.”
“Implementing a “zero waste” approach for Georgia is one of the top priorities of the development of the circular economy and is the main focus of the ongoing waste management sector reform in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development of waste prevention.”
By supporting the Zero Waste Initiative, our country joins the call and call for the international community to address the planet’s triple crisis – biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution.
The “zero-waste” approach creates a new opportunity for the business sector to support zero-waste and circular production implementation, Solomon Pavliashvili said.
Notably, March 30 is marked as International Day of Zero Waste, which aims to promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production. It promotes the societal shift towards circularity, while raising awareness about the role of zero-waste initiatives in contributing to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
