Georgian PM meets with Turkish business leader in Davos

The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili started a visit to the Swiss Confederation, Davos, on January 17, 2024, on Thursday, where he held the first meeting with Levent Cakiroglu, the executive chairman of KOC Holding, the largest Turkish company and one of the 500 wealthiest companies in the world.

Georgia: The Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili started a visit to the Swiss Confederation, Davos, on January 17, 2024, on Thursday, where he held the first meeting with Levent Cakiroglu, the executive chairman of KOC Holding, the largest Turkish company and one of the 500 wealthiest companies in the world.

The meeting focused on the main directions of KOC Holding’s activities in Georgia and the prospects for expanding cooperation in new projects and sectors. KOC Holding is a global player in the Turkish market, with leading positions in energy, automotive, finance and other sectors. 

The company has manufacturing facilities in more than 60 countries and exports to more than 150 countries. The company employs 105,000 people, and its income is $ 34.97 billion. Koç Group owns several hotels in Georgia.

The parties reviewed the positive economic trends in Georgia, which has had high economic growth in recent years as a result of the government’s correct monetary policy. Garibashvili noted that Georgia is favourable for investors in several areas, especially in the IT sector, where the country has one of the best tax conditions and is developing dynamically.

The sides also discussed cooperation issues in the field of tourism, which is one of Georgia’s primary income sources. Garibashvili emphasized the country’s great potential in this direction and noted that due to the government’s policy, direct income from tourism has increased significantly in recent years.

The parties agreed to continue future cooperation and explore new opportunities for mutual benefit. Garibashvili thanked Cakiroglu for his interest in and support for Georgia and invited him to visit the country.

Garibashvili is in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum, where he will participate in various sessions and meetings with world leaders and business representatives. He will also deliver a speech at the “The Future of the Caucasus and Central Asia” session.
