The official of the Data Security Service of Georgia held a meeting with a number of representatives of the various retail associations of the country. This meeting was held with the aim of raising awareness about data protection and various measures to upgrade data safety in the country.
This was a regular meeting with representatives of the Retail Association member companies. It was held to raise awareness and discuss news changes under the new law on “Personal Data Protection. “
It is to be specifically mentioned that it was also the purpose of the meeting to inform the business sector about the terms, basics of data processing, principles, rights of the data subject, processing issues for direct marketing and other important changes being implemented in the country.
Similarly the attending participants of the event were provided with information on changes in private sector supervision. This information was provided by the head of the department Archil Javelidze and the chief lawyer of the department Nino Katamadze.
On this occasion up to 25 representatives of member companies of the association attended the meeting. They had the opportunity to get answers from representatives of the service on actual issues.
The private sector representatives process a large volume of personal data as part of their activities. Therefore, raising awareness about data protection issues under the new legislation will significantly improve personal data protection standards and help to develop unified policies for them.
It is also worth noting that Retail Association use such large data under various terms, which include – “Goodwill”, “Carrefour”, “Nikora”, “Spar”, “Agrohub”, “Magnet”, “Gulf Story”, “Daily”, “Domino”, “Zhapari” and so on.
Notably, before the law comes into force, the service actively continues meetings with various targeted audiences to improve the smooth transition into new legal spaces.
Offcial also stated that more such meeting will he held in coming day throughout the country as well.
