Georgia: The Georgian government has delivered 12 new buses to the Imereti region, as part of a program to improve the public transport system in the country. The buses were distributed in five municipalities of Imereti, where they will provide comfortable and accessible service to the local population.
The new buses were inspected by the State Commissioner of Imereti, Zviad Shalamberidze, along with the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Besik Gopodze, and the mayors of the municipalities. Shalamberidze praised the initiative and said that it will enhance the quality of life of the citizens.
“Central authorities and local municipalities jointly purchased 12 very comfortable and well-equipped buses, which were distributed in five municipalities of Imereti. From tomorrow our citizens will be able to travel comfortably in their cities with these buses. Of course, the process continues and it is important for us to provide all 12 municipalities of Imereti with modern standards transport, by which we will replace the private sector and have municipal transport on site,” Shalamberidze said.
The buses are equipped with modern standards, such as EURO 5 emission norms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and GPS systems. They also have 47 seats and are adapted for people with disabilities. The buses are manufactured by Isuzu, a Japanese company that is a leading producer of commercial vehicles.
The purchase of the new buses is part of a larger project that aims to restore and further develop the municipal transport system in Georgia, funded by both the central and local budgets. The project involves the purchase of 154 units of Isuzu buses, which will be distributed in 38 municipalities of the country. The project is expected to solve the problem of internal transport that has existed for years for the population living in the regions.
