Ambrolauri, Georgia: An information meeting on gender equality and violence against women was held at Ambrolauri’s first public school on February 16, 2024.
The meeting was organized by the Legal Aid Center of “Rights of Georgia” Ambrolauri, a non-governmental organization that provides free legal assistance to vulnerable groups.
The meeting was led by Konstantine Khidureli, a lawyer of the Legal Aid Center, who explained the activities of the organization and the legal rights of women and children. He also introduced the forms of violence against women, such as physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse, and the mechanisms for protection and assistance to victims of violence, such as restraining orders, shelters, and counseling services.
The meeting was attended by parents of Ambrolauri’s first and second public school students, who showed interest and engagement in the topic. They discussed the issues of children’s rights, juvenile justice, and a code of conduct for students, as well as the causes and consequences of domestic violence, the role of advocacy and support for victims of abuse, and the need for psycho-emotional support.
The meeting was held in a discussion mode, with the participants sharing their opinions and experiences, and asking questions to the lawyer. The meeting aimed at raising the legal awareness of the citizens and empowering them to prevent and combat violence against women in their communities.
The information meeting was held in support of the USAID rule of law program, which promotes the development of a fair and effective justice system in Georgia. The program supports the Legal Aid Center of “Rights of Georgia” Ambrolauri, as well as other civil society organizations, to provide legal education and assistance to the public.
