Robin Danigan the United States States Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia visited recently at the Akhaltsikhe Fire and Rescue Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The ambassador of the United States was hosted by the Head of Emergency Management Service Temur Mghebrishvili during this visit to the department.
During her visit US Ambassador Robin Dunigan inspected the latest special equipment for effective wildland fire response. She also inspected the equipment that have been added to the department with the support of the United States Embassy’s European Gravel Defense Cooperation Service (ODC).
The special equipment has been designed for fire department personnel and will be used for both fire and rescue operations and training purposes.
This is noteworthy that many times the forest areas of Georgia come under the direct attack of wildfire. This problem of wildfire prevention is still the biggest challenge for the employees of the fire and rescue department.
During this ceremony of equipment delivery, the US ambassador stressed that the role of the employees of the fire and rescue department has become more relevant due to the growing threat of climate change and global warming. During her interaction with the employees she discussed the need for inter-agency collaboration for effective emergency management.
The representative of the department also apprised her about the various activities that are being executed with US support, They also extended their gratitude to the US ambassador for the continued support of the Georgian authorities as well.
The latest equipment delivered to the department also included the specially designed helmet that can be used in extreme fire incidents. Notably this handover of fire and rescue equipment from the American side is another confirmation of a successful partnership that will continue to be active and productive in the future.
Both sides also expressed hopes that the cooperation between both the countries has a great role to play in tackling the present common challenges which also include the issue of climate change and rising global temperatures.
