Georgia: The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, heartily congratulated the Azerbaijani government, the Azerbaijani people, and Azerbaijan on Independence Day, May 26, 2024.

On his official Facebook page, he writes, “In 1918, just a few ten meters from this place, Georgia and Azerbaijan simultaneously declared independence, formed the first republics, and celebrated statehood at the same time.”

He also wrote, “Unfortunately, this joy did not last long. However, fortunately, the Soviet occupation could not suppress the desire and spirit of the two nations towards statehood, self-sufficiency, and independence.”

“Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, our countries have undergone a difficult and challenging path, standing side by side, supporting labor, mutual friendship, and mutual aid. The friendship between our countries and people has been tested and proven by time and historical storms. Today, these relationships are at the level of strategic partnerships, encompassing all directions and developing dynamically. We successfully developed parliamentary relations with my colleague Sahiba Gaparova,” noted Shalva  Papuashvili.

The minister stated, “Several high-level visits and meetings were held, strengthening ties between friendship groups and sectoral committees. We are eager to continue this positive trend and share experiences on important and interesting topics with both countries.”

He also mentioned that last year, he visited Azerbaijan twice. He was glad that despite the slight difference in time between the visits, the country’s construction and progress could be felt during each visit. He also warmly remembers my visit to Baku and the hospitality and warm reception shown by Mrs. Gafarova. These relationships give them even more energy to care about deepening ties between countries and people.

Finally, he wrote, “Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan goes beyond bilateral relations. We work closely to ensure regional peace and prosperity. Only under such conditions can we continue to develop our countries and fully grasp the region’s potential. Only this way will we be able to build a strong bridge between Europe and Asia and fully enjoy these benefits. Once again, I congratulate the Azerbaijani people on Independence Day. I wish your country progress, peace, and prosperity.”

“I believe that cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan will bring much more goodness to our people,” he concluded.
