Irakli Lekvinadze, the Chairman of the Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency participated in the recently held 14th forum of local economic development. The forum was organized by Tbilisi City Hall administraitonn to discuss the multiple issues.
During the session of forum Irakli Lekvinadze presented report under title “Strengthening local business for economic sustainability” . He also discuessed the reforms, results and current issues in the filed of competition and consumer protection.
In his detailed address at the occasion he said “To make the best competition environment from 2014 to the present the agency has already issued 100 mandatory recommendations. These include 63 to state bodies/local self-government bodies, 24 to economic agents and 13 to the pharmaceutical market.”
He further added “The investigation of 56 cases was completed with concrete results and 13 Market monitoring project are going on. Effective control of the concentration of companies is ongoing, and as of today, 37 approvals have been issued for the concentration of economic agents in various sectors.”
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze was also present and opened the forum under the name – “Healthy City – a green, ecologically clean environment, flexible and sustainable urban development.” At the same time, the participants in the event were included Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Chairman of the City Council Giorgi Tkemaladze, and mayors of Baku, Ganji, and Gyumri. Also, members of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Parliament, representatives of various state agencies, local self-governments, diplomats and 25 guests from 15 countries also present on the occasion as well.
It is to be added that in order to exchange advanced ideas and make effective decisions the participants on two days June 6 and 7 discussed many issues which also included healthy city, renewable energy consumption and development, sustainable socio-economic development, healthy city as an indicator in the development of sustainable tourism, circular economy for sustainable development, modern technologies and startup environment in Georgia and the region, civic engagement and participation, strengthening of local business for economic sustainability, impact of healthy living on city economy, etc.
