Georgia: The sixth stage of conservation-restoration of Ujarmi Castle City, located in Sagarejo Municipality, has been completed.
North-west of Ujarmi, on the slope of the right bank of the river Ivri, on the side of the Tbilisi-Telavi highway. Castle-city on complex relief – 30000 sq.m. მ. It’s built out on the property. It consists of two main parts: the Citadel – the upper or the Cathedral, where the Palace of Kings is located; the small church of the Door of the Crucifixion, a cellar, and a reservoir.
The lower castle is bordered by square gallons from the Citadel’s northern side to the Ivri River’s banks. The continuity of the galvanic walls is disrupted by rectangular three-story towers with symmetrically separated plans. The reconstruction and development of the Ujjarmi prison are mainly related to the name of King Vakhtang (Gorgasali).
The fifth phase was implemented in 2021-2022, during which the reconstruction and conservation of the N5 tower and N13a dump were completed, the cracks of the N13 pool were injected, and the damaged walls were restored. Emergency stairs connected the Citadel and the lower fortress. In addition, lighting was set up on the outer perimeter of the prison from the motorway.
The sixth phase of conservation and restoration work began in 2023, during which the damaged galavan between towers No5 and No6 and the galavan between N6 and N7 were restored.
The sixth stage of rehabilitation works was performed by the company A(a)ip “Historical Monument Rehabilitation Center,” which won the electronic tender.
The agency spent a total of 1,914 464 GEL to rehabilitate the statue.
For information: The National Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia has been starting the conservation and restoration of Ujarmi Castle City since 2018, and six stages of work have been implemented.
In 2018, the 2nd phase of the conservation-restoration of Ujarmi Castle City was held. In this phase, various parts of the Citadel were cleared of soil and trees, and N3 and N19 towers were rehabilitated.
In the third phase, in 2019, walkways, a metal crossing bridge, and two metal staircases with railings were installed, and the restoration and conservation of the N16 tower were carried out.
In 2020, within the fourth phase, the north galavan of the Citadel was rebuilt, towers N2, N17, and N18 were cleaned and conserved, the cafe’s roof was installed, and the N1 tower and N21 water reservoir were cleaned from trees, and plants were cleaned between the galavan and N3 towers.
