Georgia: The Batumi Museum, named after Ilia Chavchavadze, hosted the presentation of the young writer Nodar Macharashvili’s new novel – “Galilean Fisherman” on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The book tells about the chapter of the Apostles of Christ – St. Peter and the 12 disciples of Christ, life, missionary achievement, and martyrdom.
The presentation was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara Akaki Dzneladze, Director of the House of Writers of Georgia Ketevan Dumbadze, and other officials – a literature-loving society.
The meeting was a dynamic exchange in a question-answer format. A highlight of the event was when Elene Shalikadze, a third-grade pupil of Batumi private school ‘Euro-2000’, presented a portrait of grandfather Nodar as a gift.
Ilia Chavchavadze Museum
The museum of the great Georgian writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze was founded in Batumi in 2001. It was renovated in 2021 and officially opened on April 1. The museum’s permanent exhibition displays the personal belongings of the great Georgian writer, poet, publicist, politician, and public figure of the 19th century, Ilia Chavchavadze, and his comrades and like-minded friends.
As a leader, he fought to elevate the moral values and self-awareness of society, leading to his canonization as a saint by the Orthodox Church.
Here one can explore photos and documentary materials related to Ilia Chavchavadze’s life, as well as personal belongings, paintings, and sculptures of other notable public figures. The museum also features objects that illustrate the region’s history and ethnography.
Additionally, the museum offers insights into the lives of Ilia Chavchavadze’s friends, such as writer and doctor Grigol Volski, who worked in Batumi. Overall, the museum displays 278 exhibits.
