Food agency fines 82 businesses for critical inconsistency

The food safety agency of Georgia has fined 82 business houses for critical violation of food safety norms. The agency has identified violations of these norms during routine inspections.

Tbilisi: The food safety agency of Georgia has fined 82 business houses for critical violation of food safety norms. The agency has identified violations of these norms during routine inspections.

The National Food Agency of Georgia stated in this regard and added that the representatives of the agency have inspected  3103   food facilities.

They also defied so many food safety regulations during the inspection of the products and slaughterhouses across the country. The inspection of these food shopes was conducted during April and June.

The agency representative further revealed that their officials identified violations during inspections of different food items. This also included pre-cooked, dairy, fish, and meat products, and meat product enterprises.

The inspections were also conducted at kindergarten and school catering, food retail and wholesale, public catering facilities, animal and poultry slaughterhouses, and other venues.

According to the agency  during the inspection the agency representative checked different components  which included the sanitary and hygienic norms, conditions of food preparation, storage, and sale, and deadlines.

At the same time product labeling, traceability, and proper functioning of the hazard analysis and critical control points are also inspected during the monitoring of the venues of food business houses as well.

 

It is worth mentioning that the violations involved the sale of meat without health indications was also detected  which is kind of misleading the customer.

Other irregularities include improper washing and disinfection, violation of sanitary and hygienic norms, temperature  control, condensation in refrigerators, food storage conditions, etc.

 

The agency’s inspection rate increased by 2.64 percent during these months. The Georgian health ministry has given the food agency free rein to maintain a high level of hygienic and safety norms.

Food adulteration is considered as the biggest cause of concern as it leads to many lifestyle-related diseases as well. The health ministry has launched many initiatives in the past years to make people aware of food safety issues.
