In a significant blow to the Georgian Government, the United States of America stopped providing USD 95 million in financial assistance. The development came after the USA announced that it would review its relationship with Georgia due to adopting the foreign agent’s law.

The United States of America has taken this decision after the anti-democratic actions by the Georgian government. The US Secretary of State  Antony Blinken made an announcement in this regard.

Blinkin’s statement reads  “The Georgian government’s anti-democratic actions and false statements are incompatible with membership norms in the EU and NATO. Moreover the recent stand taken by Georgia is totally wrong and has affected the relation with the USA.”

It is worth mentioning that despite the pause in assistance the USA has pledged to continue to support Georgia in implementing projects and other activities that will help the ordinary people of Georgia. Moreover  the USA will continue its support for the projects  which will help to uplift the democratic values in countries as well.

Anthony Blinken’s statement mentioeond  that the USA has helped Georgia in many ways over the last long year of mutual friendship.   USA support has helped to equip and train Georgia’s Defense Forces and Coast Guard.  It  also helps to build schools and hospitals  and train civil servants and medical professionals for the rehabilitation of Georgia.

On May 23 Secretary of State Blinken stated that the USA would review its relations with Georgia and impose some restrictions. These restrictions include a travel ban on the individuals responsible for suppressing civil society and freedom of peaceful assembly in Georgia through violence or intimidation when the country was passing through the protest phase.

The Department of Defence , USA also announced on July 5 the indefinite postponement of the Noble Partner exercise in Georgia. This was   termed a pressure tactic of the USA against Georgia.

The exercise was scheduled for July 25-August 6 this year. The USA official cited the same reason that the decision to postpone the exercise was taken after the review of bilateral relations.
