 6.5 million people expected to travel at Georgian airports this year: Airport Director

Irakli Karkashadze  the director of the United Airports of Georgia  has expressed hopes on high numbers of  passengers at airports in the current years. He said that the international airports of Georgia is expected to serve over 6.5 million passengers in the current year.

Irakli Karkashadze commented on this on Wednesday and highlighted that the Georgian international airports already served a “record” number of over four million passengers. This number of four million passengers travelled between the first seven months of this year from January to July. This number is a reflection of a 28 percent increase in air travellers year-on-year.

On the other hand  the deputy Economy Minister  of the Republic of Georgia also highlights the record-high passenger flow at Georgia’s International Airports. He expressed hopes that the number will surpass the previous records of  last year, a development that  will help  for the country’s economic growth.

 

Minister speaking specifically on the issue added the aviation industry if Georgia sets new records every month. It is the now responsibility of the Georgian government to make the maximum efforts for the expansion of the airline industry.

At the same timeb the Minister highlighted the current development and stated that we have diversified the markets with consistent efforts. These diversified markets have opened the gate of opportunity for the country’s aviation sector.

 

The government is committed to implementing more measures in this direction. He also stated that next month we will have big news regarding the airline industry and new destinations.

It is to be added that the international airport of the capital city Tbilisi  has so far served a total of 519,275 passengers. This is a 29 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year 2023.

On the other hand  the Batumi Airport  recorded improved numbers of passengers. Batumi airports have served 48 percent more travelers as compared to the same period of last year, 2023.  According to the management company of Tbilisi and Batumi International airports, July recorded the highest air traveller footfall.

 

Meanwhile  the western Kutaisi International Airport also reported a historic number of passengers in the first sevan month of the current year.  This means the airport has served a total number of one million passengers in this period.
