The United Nations Human Rights Council recently adopted a resolution on Georgia’s occupied territories.

The resolution, dated October 11, namely ” Cooperation with Georgia allows easy access to regions such as Abkhazia and Tskhinvali for international human rights monitoring.

At the same time the resolution urged the UNHRC to regularly release updates on the future progress of the provisions contained in the resolution.

Meanwhile the council also reiterated its commitment to the fundamental rights of people living in these areas.

It reiterated its commitment to defending Georgia’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, which will protect the rights of people living in these areas. It also welcomed the cooperation being extended by the Government of Georgia in this direction.

The resolution criticised the illegal action of the Russian forces in Georgia’s territories. Moreover, the attempts by Russian troops to prove this legitimate have  been condemned.

As per the supporter of the resolution, it is the joint responsibility of all the people to raise their voice of people living in areas under Russian influence to protect the rights of people.

It is worth noting that the UNHCR has condemned the installation of barbed wire and other artificial barriers along the occupation lines as well.

The resolution further called for action against those who are responsible for the killing of the Tamaz Ginturi and Temur Karbaia.

Although the Russian forces allegedly killed them, the resolution called to identify the exact reason and person behind the execution of the two as well. It further added that due to a lack of accountability, people are being killed in Russian-occupied territories.

The issues of restriction on occupied territories by regional and international organisations were also discussed. The resolution further provided that in such cases of human rights violation, it is very difficult for ordinary men to survive.

The survival of the people of these areas is tough as  many  tough restrictions by regional or international organisations have been imposed on them.
