Nino Tandilashvili the first Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia attended the conference of parties’ summit 29 at the Baku.
She also spoke at the Ministerial “Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate)” meeting and called for global action to counter the environmental issues.
It is worth to note that this significant meeting namely ministeral meeting was held in Baku within the framework of a joint initiative of the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates.US Secretary of Agriculture (Minister) Thomas Vilsak and United Arab Emirates Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Amna Bint Abdullah Al-Dahaki opened the meeting.
The main objective of this meeting is significantly increasing collective engagement through innovation and investment in climate-conscious agriculture and food systems. She also noted during her speech that Georgia is actively working to reduce the negative impact of climate change on the agricultural sector. Increasing the adaptive capabilities for the agrarian sector is one of the most important priorities of the Georgian government.
At the same time the Minister in her speech underlined that, In the 2021-2027 Strategy of Agriculture and Rural Development of Georgia, special attention is paid to the implementation and implementation of climate-wise agriculture practices.
Conserving and rational use of water resources will be an approach that will be implemented in the agriculture sector in the wake of climate change.
In addition she said the Georgian government plans to spend 3 billion GEL to support farmers in the agriculture sector by 2028, and 300 million USD mobilized for modern irrigation systems.
Minister while expressing hopes said that I am sure that implementing relevant innovations in agriculture will help reduce the negative impact of climate change on the agricultural sector, increase productivity and that with united efforts, we will be able to make significant strides.
Notably in this meeting the high-ranking delegates from about 20 countries attended the “Mission of Agriculture Innovation for Climate” within the framework of the UN Conference on Climate Change Parties (COP 29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
