Georgia: A thematic school “Only One Earth” was held for young people living in Ozurgeti and Chokhatauri municipalities on April 24-28, 2025. It was organized by the Union of Young Teachers. The aim was to raise awareness about environmental protection and climate change issues.
Although, Young people interested in climate change and environmental issues have come together for one goal. They have come to deepen their knowledge, discuss the rapid development of climate change, ecological challenges. Additionally, they have come to engage in the educational process to become knowledge-sharers themselves in the community.
Within the framework of the thematic school, sessions were held by invited experts in two main areas:Basics of climate change, sustainability, and environmental science, in particular:
- Climate change, its negative effects on humans; Sustainable practices: the importance of renewable energies, waste management, and sustainable consumption. Sustainable future: Innovations and technologies on climate change; environmental policy.
- The importance of biodiversity and the impact of climate change on ecosystems; food chains and food networks; biodiversity protection policies; threats of biodiversity & sustainable conservation practices; the role of societies in biodiversity protection.
- Effective communication methods, how to create interesting content and how to tell a story, how to prepare effective text during speech, and principles of Copywriting. Graphic design platforms, motion design, illustrations and theme posters, graphics creation, mobile video editing apps, and more.
In order for young people to analyse, research and think, and work on effective ways to deliver and share knowledge with society, the secondary school focuses on content creation and introduction/learning techniques to use the internet as a platform.
At the next stage of the thematic school, young people will participate in a creative competition. They will create graphic, audio-visual, and print materials on climate change topics.
However, the initiative is being implemented by the Union of Young Teachers. Notably, it is implemented within the framework of the project “EU4Youth: Youth engagement and empowerment.” It was funded by the EU and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Also, the project “Changes in the educational and social spheres by engaging community members” is being implemented with the financial support of the” German foundation Brot Für Die Welt.
