Georgia: The International Experts of Georgia met with the governmental and non-governmental sector (NGO) representatives of the country on May 14, 2025. The meeting was held within the framework of the “Rewilding Europe” initiative.
The Agency of Protected areas shared the snippets of the meeting on its official Facebook page. The Agency also shared a small note along with the snippets. According to the shared details, it should be noted that Vashlovani protected lands become part of the global environmental project “Rewilding Europe” this year. Â
Moreover, the “Rewilding Europe” initiative is a pan-European effort focused on restoring nature and creating a wilder Europe. Hoewever, Rewilding Europe may use comparable programs in Georgia as part of its larger European efforts.
Notably, this initiative aims to restore natural ecosystems in Europe, replacing wildlife and plants in their habitats. This also promotes natural processes.
Within the framework of the new international initiative “Rewilding Europe“, a working meeting was held in Tbilisi. International experts have heard detailed information about Vashlovani National Park. They discussed conservation projects that are being implemented in the areas with the support of NGOs.
Certainly, the unification of Vashlovani Protected Areas in the “Rewilding Europe” initiative is an important step towards wildlife protection and ecosystem restoration. The initiative will develop a 5-year conservation plan for reintroduction of species whose return to the territory will help restore natural processes and ecosystems, ensure food chain continuity, and preserve wildlife.
It is noteworthy that the protected areas of Vashlovani are distinguished by their unique semi-desert landscapes and rich biodiversity. In addition, Vashlovani Protected Territory, since 2015, is the only protected territory in Georgia with a European Diploma. Since 2013, the project of reintroduction the Kurtsiki has been successfully implemented on the territory.
