Batumi, Georgia: Georgia celebrated International Soldiers Day with great enthusiasm and a ceremonial event in Batumi on July 1, 2025, Tuesday.
The ceremonial event was attended by President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Adjara Government Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominges, and Head of the Marine Transport Agency Alexi Akhvlediani.
The chairman of the Adjara government congratulated the sailors on their professional day and noted that the maritime sector is a strategic direction for the Adjara region.
He also gave a welcome speech at the event, in which he noted, “Seamanship is an honorable and praiseworthy profession that requires not only courage, but also great responsibility. The maritime sector is a strategic direction for Adjara. “
According to the Chairman, Sailors have a special role in the sustainable economic development of the seaside region. The majority of Georgian sailors are from Adjara and their contribution is the most important for the strength and development of thier region.
He also added, “We continue to actively support the maritime sector in the region and, first and foremost, this is reflected in supporting maritime education. “
“Years of experience have raised a generation of seafarers successfully working in leading international maritime companies. It is commendable that Georgian sailors are distinguished all over the world by their professionalism and bravery,” said Sulkhan Tamazashvili.
During the event, sailors and maritime personnel were awarded for their contribution to the development of the maritime field and their exceptional courage at sea.
The Members of the Georgian and Adjara governments attended the event dedicated to the International Day of Sailors.
