The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia charged 5 persons for a group attack and resistance against police officers in the village of Kheltubani of Gori municipality.

This vital information was shared by the Prosecution Service of Georgia on July 17, 2025, Thursday. The Service also shared glimpses of the arrests made by them.

According to the information shared by the Georgian Prosecution Service, it should be noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted an in-depth investigation into this case.

Cause of charges

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was determined that on July 16th of this year, at about 01:00, in the village of Kheltubani of Gori municipality, a minor, who did not have the right to drive, was driving a car.

Notably, the police stopped him for verification and explained the content of the violation. The minor and the person under the influence of alcohol have verbally and physically abused the police.

When arresting one of them, the accused, who was under the influence of alcohol, hit the policeman, which resulted in injury. The juvenile accused also caused life-threatening injuries to two police officers. In order to distract the accused, three people in the nearby area resisted the police.

Criminal charges were laid against the suspect

Three of the detainees were charged under Article 353, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (Resistance against a police officer to obstruct the maintenance of public order and interrupt his activities, committed with violence and threat of violence), which provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

Two defendants were charged under Article 353, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia and Article 19-353, Part 3 (Violation of the health of a police officer in connection with his activities; Attempt to kill a police officer in connection with his official activities), which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has already petitioned the court to use imprisonment as a preventive measure against the defendants. Furthermore, the investigation into the criminal case continues, as per information from the office. The officials expected that the further investigation would reveal more details.
