CIU Awards “Tamar” Scientific Prize to Top Georgian Researchers

Tbilisi, Georgia: The Caucasus International University (CIU) Scientific Prize “Tamar” was held in the Metekhi Palace Hotel “Sheraton Grand Tbilisi” on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The Caucasus International University (CIU) shared the glimpses of the award ceremony on its official Facebook page on July 18, 2025, Friday. The University also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.

The winners of the prize were announced within the event – the first degree award was given to microbiologist Sofia Rigvava, the second degree award was given to gynecologist Magda Tortladze, and philologist Nino Mindiashvili gave the third degree award.

Each winner of the prize was given a cash prize and a specially designed golden medal. The event was opened by Cecili Gogiberidze, head of the Department of Scientific Studies of the Caucasus International University (CIU).

The other participants of the event are:

  • Kakhaber Kordzaia, Rector of Caucasus International University,
  • Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Chancellor of Caucasian International University,
  • Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia,
  • Teimuraz Dochvir, Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Scientific Foundation,
  • poet Tariel Kharkhelauri,
  • G. Mzia Kutateladze, Director of the Eliava Institute of Bacteriophagy, Microbiology and Virology.

The event was attended by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, Shota Rustaveli National Scientific Foundation of Georgia, Patriarchate of Georgia, representatives of various public and private sectors, as well as the leadership of Caucasus International University, academic and administrative staff.

It is also noteworthy that the award “Tamar” was established in the Caucasus International University in 2017 with the prayer-blessing of Catholic-Patriarch Ilia II, and the title was given in honor of the progressive and humanitarian policy in the Caucasus, protector of intellectuals and artists, the King of Georgia, Tamari.

The awards will be given to the winners for their exceptional contributions to science at the local and international levels. The goal of the award “Tamar” is to stimulate scientific activity, motivate scientists, and promote professional development.

Over the past 8 years, the Caucasus International University has seen significant growth in scientific publications and research activity: More than 300 scientific articles have been published in internationally referenced journals.
