The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzha Bektenov. During the meeting, there was a discussion on the priority directions of the bilateral relationship.
The parties discussed the broad range of trade-economic relations between the two countries. The conversation touched upon bilateral trade, transport and logistics, energy, civil aviation, and tourism sectors between the countries.
He emphasized the importance of bringing international cargo into the mentioned corridor and, in this regard, the efforts of the governments of both countries. At the meeting, the parties discussed infrastructural projects that will contribute to the further development of the middle corridor.
The meeting noted that trade turnover among countries has been characterized by increased dynamics in recent years – in 2024, this index has risen by 25 percent compared to the previous year, and exports by 22 percent.
According to these indicators, Kazakhstan is in the top ten of Georgia’s trading partners. Similar dynamics continued in the 2025 January – May period, turnover by 24 percent, and exports increased by 20 percent. As Mariam Kvrivishvili stated, Kazakhstan is an important trade-economic partner of Georgia.
“Export plays an important role in the economy of both countries, and, of course, we are optimistic that the existing framework of our partnership will expand even more, and we will see even more Georgian-made products on the Kazakh market,” the minister stated.
The parties also positively assessed the cooperation in the fields of tourism and aviation, noting that in 2024, Kazakhstan was sixth in the top ten international visitors to Georgia, and the growth was 17 percent compared to last year. He emphasized cooperation in the field of aviation – it was said that during this summer’s navigation season, 55 flights between Georgia and Kazakhstan have been approved.
At the meeting, Mariam Kvrivishvili emphasized the importance of the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which will be held in the capital of Georgia on October 22-23. The minister expressed hope that Kazakhstan’s side will be represented at a high level at the forum.
