Georgia: The Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia, Revaz Sokhadze, got acquainted with the infrastructure projects for the development of Daba Abastumani during another working trip in the region on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The Roads Department of Georgia shared the glimpses of the ongoing infrastructural project for the development of Daba Abastumani on its official Facebook Page on Wednesday. The Department also posted some information about the projects along with their glimpses.
According to the information shared by the Georgian Roads Department, it should be noted that, along with the Georgian Minister Revaz Sokhadze, the head of government administration, Levan Zhorzholiani, was also present there and got acquainted with the ongoing works.
It should also be noted that on his working visit, the Minister, together with the representatives of the Department of Roads, inspected the rehabilitation works of the 16 km (km17-km33) section of the Baghdati-Abastumani road, Kakaskhidi-Zekari crossroads.
The monsoon passes through practically uninhabited forests and the alpine zone. The road is located at an average height of 1700-2100 m above sea level.
Within the framework of the rehabilitation project, asphalt-concrete pavement will be laid, and waterproof pipes, retaining walls, and road signs will be set up.
It is worth noting that today’s alternative to the Baghdati-Abastumani road is the Baghdati-Khashuri-Abastumani road route, and the Kutaisi-Baghdati-Sairme-Abastumani-Benara road is a gravel road to Sairme-Abastumani, which increases the distance from Kutaisi airport.
With the construction of a new road, the connection between north and south will be maintained, so that the resort does not have to pass through the motorway.
The renewed Baghdati-Abastumani road will connect the regions of Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, and Adjara. The total length of the road connecting Baghdati-Abastumani is 73.3 km. The project consists of 10 lots in total. Works are financed from the state budget, and their total value is up to 65.5 million GEL.
