Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against two individuals for allegedly embezzling substantial amounts of money through fraudulent means. The Prosecution Service arrested the detainees on August 25, 2025.
The Georgia Prosecution Service shared the details of this heinous crime through its official Facebook Page on Monday, August 25, 2025. It is worth noting that the police department of the Ministry of Finance’s Investigation Service of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case.
Cause of charges
According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Finance’s Investigation Service, it was established that the defendants introduced themselves as high-ranking officials of the State Security Service to a citizen who wanted to obtain a construction permit from the Tbilisi City Hall and convinced the citizen that they would use their official influence to help get a construction permit for a multi-story residential building from the Tbilisi City Hall, for which they demanded 70,000 USD.
As soon as they took part in demanding the money, the investigation agency arrested both defendants on the spot.
Criminal charges were laid against the suspects
The detainees were charged under Articles 19, 180, Parts 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code (attempt by a group to fraudulently acquire a large amount of property belonging to another person by prior agreement), which provides for up to nine years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.
Notably, there is huge public support for the law enforcement agency for these drives to make the country crime-free, and it should also be noted that the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will also apply to the Court within the time limit established by law with a motion to impose imprisonment on the defendant as a preventive measure against both detainees.
