The Georgian Railways celebrated Professional Day on October 10, 2025. The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, congratulated railways on Professional Day, thanked them for their hard work, and talked about the importance of their work.
According to the Minister, Georgian Railway is an integral part of our country’s economy and transport system, playing an important role for 153 years, strengthening the country’s position in the region, and establishing Georgia as an important transport corridor connecting Asia and Europe.
“Today, we have many tangible results that were achieved through your hard work. At the same time, we continue to work to further strengthen the Georgian railway, develop the infrastructure, and ensure the financial stability of the system,” the minister said.
Lasha Abashidze, General Director of SS “Georgian Railway”, along with other leading personnel and system employees, participated in the event. During his speech, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development spoke about the projects implemented and ongoing in terms of modernizing and developing the Georgian railway, as well as the results already achieved.
“It is very important that our government continues to be one of the most prominent supporters of the further development of the Georgian railway.” We have a clear vision on how to strengthen the railways even more, make it healthier, take care of profitability, and at the same time, how to work on strengthening infrastructure so that Georgia’s role in the global transport cycle can be strengthened even more”, – said Mariam Kvrivishvili.
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development has highlighted several important projects, including the railway modernization project, which is, in fact, nearing completion and, as a result, doubling the existing possibilities of the railway.
“At the same time, we are looking forward to the completion of the most important Tbilisi-Bako-Karsi project that started many years ago.” I am sure that with the enthusiasm that our Azerbaijani colleagues have today, in fact, in a few months we will celebrate together the full operational and operational operation of this new project, although today we can receive freight trains in test mode,” said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
