The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) addresses the misinformation spread by one of the media outlets, which seems to indicate that law enforcers physically assaulted a young man in Gori city.
On January 3rd of this year, the employees of the Gori Regional Authority of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested an unconscious citizen, born in 2000, who acted aggressively and damaged a citizen’s car.
During the arrest, at the scene, his accomplice, born in 2005, convicted and under probation, Luka Topchishvili, obstructed law enforcement officers from performing their duty and physically abused the police. In particular, he punched a policeman in the face, after which he hid and tried to beat another policeman who chased him. However, the law enforcers arrested him under Article 353 of the Criminal Code for violently resisting a law enforcer while on duty.
According to the Ministry, the police officers acted strictly within the framework of the law and in full compliance with procedural standards while ensuring public order and safety. The use of force was proportionate and solely aimed at neutralizing the threat posed by the individuals involved and preventing further damage or harm to citizens.
The rumor that police physically assaulted a young man is false and misinformation that serves to deliberately discredit the authorities and each officer!

Regarding this, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) does not intend to comply with the deliberate discreditation of police officers, and we will inform the public of all such facts and expose misinformers.
