Georgia holds talks on human rights and cooperation

Georgia: The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, Tea Akhvlediani, held a meeting with the Commissioner of Human Rights of the Council of Europe, Michael O’Flaherty, on Wednesday.

The Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its Official Facebook Page on April 15, 2026, Wednesday. A small note about the meeting was also shared along with its glimpses.

According to the small note shared by the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, it should be noted that the Minister of State stressed the Council of Europe’s firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders, as well as the importance of the Secretary-General’s annual consolidated reports, and noted the Michael O’Flaherty role of the Council of Europe in the process of peaceful resolution of the conflict, including reconciliation and inclusion.

In response to Michael O’Flaherty’s interest, the Minister of State explained to the Commissioner of Human Rights in the occupied regions of Georgia about the difficult situation in human rights and humanitarian perspective, and the consequences of the ongoing occupation.

The Minister of State also spoke about the priorities of reconciliation and inclusion policy, current implementation, and future visions, aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the conflict-affected population and deepening dialogue and trust based on common interests among artificially divided societies.

The Commissioner for Human Rights expressed his warm gratitude towards the Minister of State and thanked him for providing comprehensive information, and noted that he will, in turn, pay special attention to the human rights situation in the occupied regions. Furthermore, the parties agreed to continue their close cooperation.
