The representatives from the city’s fishing industry, the National Environment Agency staff, and the agriculture officer, Denis Reis, met with the EU group in Poti.
The LEPL National Environmental Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on April 27, 2026, Monday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
The purpose of the meeting was to share information on progress made in fisheries and aquaculture and discuss existing challenges.
Special attention will be given to the agency’s specialists on the scientific research of fisheries and the implementation of methodologies in accordance with modern EU standards.
In addition, the parties discussed opportunities for deepening international cooperation, including working with the General Commission of Fisheries of the Mediterranean.
During the discussions, the ongoing and planned legislative reforms, both in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, aimed at sustainable development of the sector and harmonization with international standards, were also discussed. In addition, attention was paid to measures to promote the export of marine fishing products in the EU market.
During the meeting, the participants inspected the local maritime and fishing infrastructure, Georgian fishing vessels, and fish processing plants.
A working meeting organized by the National Environment Agency was held at the Poti Branch of the State Maritime Academy and it was attended by the licenses and permits of the National Environment Agency, as well as the departments of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Biodiversity, employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision and representatives of the fisheries sector – fishermen, license holders and fishermen Captains of Ri ships were in attendance.
