In the Parliament of Georgia, on the initiative of the Committee of Culture, an event dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of Georgian writer, publicist, and social activist Ekaterine Gabashvili was held.
The Parliament of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on June 25, 2026, Thursday. The Georgian Parliament also shared a small note about the event held along with its glimpses.
The Participants of the event were addressed with a welcome speech:
- Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili,
- Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Nino Tsilosan,
- Chairman of the Culture Committee, Giorgi Gabunia,
- Minister of Culture, Tinatin Rukhadze,
- Director General of the National Library, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia.
During their speech, the reporters focused attention on Ekaterine Gabashvili’s special year in the development of Georgian literature, education, and public life. They talked about Ekaterine Gabashvili’s multifaceted work, social and educational activities, and her important contribution to the promotion of women’s rights and education.
During the anniversary event, a presentation of Ekaterine Gabashvili’s collection of previously unknown letters and publications was held, which was given on the initiative of the Parliament of Culture Committee of Georgia and with the support of the National Library. There was also an exhibition space where materials depicting Ekaterine Gabashvili’s life and achievements were presented.
The event was attended by pupils and teachers of the public school in the village of Mefiskalaki of the municipality of Kaspi. The school celebrated within the anniversary year will be named Ekaterine Gabashvili.
Ekaterine Gabashvili was an active member of the Society for Writing and Reading, one of the founders of the Society of Writers, and a supporter of education and the protection of women’s rights.
The goal of the anniversary event is to showcase and promote Ekaterine Gabashvili’s multifaceted creative and social heritage.
