President honors Georgian Sailors at Batumi Celebration

The events dedicated to the International Day of Sailors ended with a celebratory event held at Batumi International Container Terminal on June  26, 2026, Friday.
The Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page along with a short note about the event.
The event was opened with the ceremony of taking the oath of students of Batumi State Maritime Academy. Georgian sailors were congratulated on their professional day by Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zurab Pataradze, and Director of the Maritime Transport Agency Ivane Abashidze.
During his speech, Ivane Abashidze emphasized the professionalism of Georgian sailors, their international recognition, and the importance of maritime education for the future development of the country. During the event, the memory of the fallen sailors was honored by placing a crown in the sea.
At the end, the award ceremony was also held at the event. Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili awarded Lali Khvedelidze, Nikoloz Ovcharenko, Mikheil Bajelidze, and Paata Tabagua with Medals of Honor.
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, awarded Parmen Khvedelidze, Valeri Khardin, Levan Mzhavia, and Boris Kvikvinia. Chairman of the Adjara Government, Zurab Pataradze, presented awards to Irakli Ramishvili, Vano Kiladze, David Lomadze, Temur Beraya, and Tamaz Kakhidze, and director of Georgian Maritime Transport Agency, Ivane Abashidze, awarded Vaja Sikharulidze, Tamaz Melkadze, Otar Jijavadze, Tariel Kokoladze, Teimuraz Dolidze, Tsuri Kurshubadze, and Zurab Bezhanov. In addition, the Tengiz Richkov award was given to Irakli Kikvidze.
The event was also attended by Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, representatives of the Executive Government of Georgia, the Government of Adjara, and the High Council, the Diplomatic Corps, the Marine Industry, and the Education Sector.
