From 2026, the National Statistical Service of Georgia has begun intensive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its business. The introduction of innovative technologies is an important stage of Geostat’s digital transformation.
The main aim was to improve the processes of official statistics production, increase the efficiency of internal work processes, and offer modern, fast, and accessible services to users.
AI capabilities are integrated into both user-oriented digital services and data processing, analysis, methodological support, and information technology processes.
One of the important innovations in this direction is the launch of an artificial intelligence-based chatbot on the official website of Geostat. The new service allows users to ask questions in simple language regarding economic, social, demographic, and other official statistical indicators and instantly receive relevant information. The system automatically processes the user’s request, searches for relevant data, and, if necessary, redirects them to the relevant statistical publications and databases.
Artificial intelligence is also actively used to improve the internal processes of Geostat. With the support of AI, methodological documentation is being updated and improved, administrative data classification and processing support is being provided, data analysis is being conducted, database monitoring is being conducted, and various work processes are being optimized, which significantly increases the speed and quality of work.
In the field of information technologies, artificial intelligence is being used in the process of software development, software code creation and optimization, algorithm development, system testing, and the implementation of new digital solutions. The use of modern AI tools contributes to the automation of technological processes, improving the quality of software, and accelerating the development cycle.
One of the steps forward in this direction is the new search portal of the NACE classifier based on artificial intelligence, which Geostat presented in July 2026. The portal allows users to provide a description of an economic activity via text or voice and quickly search for the corresponding NACE Rev.2 code. The service is available in Georgian and English and is intended for business entities, public sector employees, and any interested user.
Geostat will continue to gradually integrate artificial intelligence capabilities into various stages of the production and dissemination of official statistics, taking into account international best practices and modern technological standards.
According to Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat, “Artificial intelligence is already an important tool for the development of official statistics today. Our goal is to further increase the efficiency of statistical processes, simplify access to data, and offer users fast, innovative, and high-quality services using modern technologies.
Artificial intelligence helps us both in data processing and analysis, as well as in the improvement of methodological documentation and the development of information technologies. We will actively continue to work in this direction in the future so that Geostat can be a modern, innovative, and as user-oriented statistical service as possible.”
The introduction of artificial intelligence is fully consistent with Geostat’s development strategy and international practice of official statistics. The use of modern technologies will contribute to increasing data availability, automating work processes, more efficient use of resources, and further improving the quality of official statistics.
