An international standard waste transfer station has been opened in Bolnisi Municipality. The event was attended by Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
The Georgian Solid Waste Management Company shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook page on August 5, 2026, Wednesday. A small note about the event along with its glimpses.
Mikheil Gogolidze, Director of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia, Delegate of Tetritskaro and Tsalki, David Sherazadashvili, First Deputy State Trustee in Lower Kartli, Ioseb Alibegashvili, and Mayor of Bolnisi Municipality Zamur Chitanava were also participating in the event.
According to the small note shared by the Georgian Solid Waste Management Company, it should be noted that the new station fully complies with international standards. The facility will serve the municipalities of Bolnisi and Dmanisi. In addition, additional jobs have been created, where the local population will be employed.
The project is part of Georgia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its solid waste management infrastructure and align municipal waste services with international environmental standards. The new facility is expected to improve the efficiency of waste collection and transportation while contributing to cleaner and more sustainable waste management practices in the region.
It is important that alongside the operation of the new waste dumping station, the closing procedures of the old dump in Bolnisi are underway. At the end of this year, a large portion of the old waste disposal facility will be closed in accordance with statutory requirements. Only the animal waste disposal cell of the old landfill, which is scheduled to be closed at the end of 2027, will continue to function.
