Georgia bids farewell to WHO representative Silviu Domente

The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia, Mikheil Sarjveladze, together with deputies and representatives of the organization, attended the farewell reception for Silviu Domente, head of the World Health Organization delegation in Georgia.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia shared glimpses of the farewell event on its official Facebook Page on August 18, 2026, Tuesday. The Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
According to the small note shared by the Georgian Health Ministry, it should be noted that Silviu Domente has been leading the World Health Organization delegation in Georgia since 2019 and has finished working in this position. The event summarized the reforms implemented in the country with support from the World Health Organization.
Mikheil Sarjveladze thanked Silviu Domente for Georgia’s support and cooperation. The Minister emphasized his important role in the successful cooperation between Georgia and the World Health Organization. As the head of the agency noted, these joint projects have significantly increased access to high-quality medical services and medicines in the country.
Silviu Domene noted in his speech that during his mission, several important reforms were implemented in Georgia, some of which, despite the scale and difficulty, the country was able to do in a relatively short period of time. DRG financing system and implementation of drug reference pricing mechanism, progress made in eradicating malaria, eradicating hepatitis C, including creation of a collaboration center and development of primary healthcare and telemedicine. He also spoke about Georgia’s experience of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that it was an important example from which other countries could learn.
Representatives of government, diplomatic corps, international organizations, and academic circles attended the event.
