German Winemakers visit Georgia’s Jighaura Research Center

The wine professionals of Germany were on a working visit to Georgia, and they got acquainted with the ongoing scientific research at the Jighaura base of the Scientific Agricultural Research Center (SRCA) of the country.

The wine professionals of Germany were on a working visit to Georgia, and they got acquainted with the ongoing scientific research at the Jighaura base of the Scientific Agricultural Research Center (SRCA) of the country.

The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) shared glimpses of the ongoing scientific research work on its official Facebook page on August 19, 2026, Wednesday. A small note about the research work was also shared along with its glimpses.

According to the small note shared by SRCA, it should be noted that a delegation of Baden winemakers visited the Jighaura base of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. Notably, the delegation was led by Pauline Kiepf, a representative of the German Organic Winegrowers and Winegrowers Association ECOVIN.

The Director of the Scientific Research Center, Levan Ujmajuridze, introduced the members of the delegation to the main directions of the center’s activities and modern approaches. He also highlighted the scientific and international projects implemented in the field of viticulture and winemaking.

The meeting focused on the opportunities for sharing experience in organic and sustainable viticulture and future cooperation.

During the visit, the guests viewed the scientific infrastructure and the ampelographic collection of rare Georgian grape varieties at the Jighaura base. The delegation members got acquainted with rare and unique varieties of Georgian vines, as well as the directions of their study and preservation.

The guests visited the Georgian Wine Museum, where exhibitions showing the history, traditions and cultural heritage of Georgian viticulture and winemaking are presented.

At the end of the visit, a tasting of wines produced from rare vine varieties grown at the Jighaura base was held. It was led by the Head of the Viticulture and Winemaking Research Service of the Scientific Research Center, David Chichua.
