“Tbeloba” was celebrated in the highlands of Adjara. The traditional public holiday was attended by the chairmen of the Supreme Council and the government of the autonomous republic – Tsotne Ananidze, Zurab Pataradze, along with representatives of the legislative and executive authorities.

“The work, activities, and scientific works of Tbel Abuseridze are, first of all, Georgian and public. He was truly a special event in the history of our country; he was connected with the Gelati Academy. In addition, his hymnography is the greatest treasure of the Georgian Orthodox Church, which not only we, but the entire Christian world is proud of,” – Tsotne Ananidze noted in his speech.

The chairman of the legislative body presented the Abuseridze Tbeli Municipal Prize to Givi Abashidze for his fruitful work in the field of law enforcement, education, and science.

The locals were congratulated on the traditional holiday by the Chairman of the Government of Ajara, Zurab Pataradze, members of the Supreme Council of Ajara and the Parliament of Georgia – Minur Paksadze, Anzor Bolkvadze, and the Mayor of Khulo Municipality, Vakhtang Beridze.

Since the 1990s, “Tbeloba” has been celebrated annually in Khulo, in the Skhalta-Khikhani Gorge, Abuseridze’s native village. The festive events were attended by the Archbishop of the Skhalta Diocese, His Grace Spiridon, and invited guests, along with the locals. “Tbeloba” was traditionally celebrated with various cultural events.

A native of Skhalta-Khikhani, a 13th-century writer, scientist, and thinker, secular and cleric Tbel Abuserisdze is a figure of great importance not only for our country, but also for humanity as a whole. His astronomical and calendar work, compiled centuries ago in 1223, is still relevant today. This is a chronological and astronomical treatise, an extensive calendar reference book, which discusses the merits and demerits of various systems of reckoning and provides ready-made tables of church holidays and moonrises and moonsets.

The Georgian Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church, by decision of the Holy Synod, canonized Tbel Abuseridze as a saint on October 17, 2002.

Before the start of the festive events, the monument to Abuseridze Tbeli was ceremonially unveiled in the central square of the town of Khulo.
