A government session was held under the chairmanship of Zurab Pataradze, the Chairman of the Government of Ajara. The issues included in the agenda and current topics important for the region were discussed at the session.
Zurab Pataradze spoke about the results of the summer tourist season. Over the past seven months, more than 2 million visitors have visited Ajara. In July 2026, 906 flights were operated at Batumi International Airport, which is a 31% increase, and according to seven-month data, up to 3,000 international flights were operated in the region. In order to fully utilize the tourism potential, fast and comfortable transportation and the development of domestic tourism by reducing the duration of travel for citizens by high-speed train in the Tbilisi-Batumi direction are of particular importance.
The Chairman of the Government also noted that the development of the mountain remains the main priority of the government, and in this direction the ongoing and planned projects at the Goderdzi resort – the arrangement of the central road, sports field and trade and service spaces – will contribute to the strengthening of the local economy.
According to the Chairman of the Government, to demonstrate the investment potential of the mountain, an investment forum will be held on the Goderdzi Pass, it is also planned to hold an international maritime forum and other important events in Batumi in the direction of the development of business tourism, the development of cruise and aviation tourism, the interest of subjects with investment potential in the perspective of the development of private aviation through air expeditions, etc. He also noted that the organization of public and traditional events is an additional motivation for the strengthening of the coastal and high-mountainous municipalities of the region.
The meeting also discussed work to develop educational infrastructure. Batumi is welcoming the new academic year with four new and two fully rehabilitated schools, while in 2026, the region carried out full or partial rehabilitation in 25 schools. The construction and rehabilitation of kindergartens continues in cooperation with municipalities. The projects of kindergartens No. 3, No. 12 and No. 26 in Batumi have been completed, and in Gonio – the construction of a new kindergarten for 250 children is planned.
In parallel with educational projects, the development of social infrastructure continues. A kindergarten for 300 children is being built in the so-called Dream City, and a competition has been announced for the preparation of a project cost estimate document for the construction of a new school.
The construction of social houses is underway in the villages of Salibauri in Kobuleti and Khelvachauri municipalities, while the social house in the village of Erge is practically completed and the apartments will soon be handed over to the beneficiaries.
The Chairman of the Government called on the relevant agencies to provide maximum support to the young people involved in the program for the successful implementation of the internship program announced within the framework of the Prime Minister’s initiative in the Adjara region. Other issues on the agenda were also discussed at the session.
