The second session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Development of the 4th Additional Protocol on Free Public Preschool and General Education under the Convention on the Rights of the Child is underway in Geneva, with the participation of the Georgian delegation.
At the session, Anastasia Basilaia, a student of Ilia Chavchavadze Batumi Public School No. 1, spoke about the availability of free public preschool and general education in Georgia.

Anastasia Basilaia said, “Georgia strongly supports the development of an additional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Preschool and general education cannot be considered a privilege – we believe that it is a fundamental human right that should be guaranteed to every child.”
In recent years, Georgia has taken important decisions to put these values ​​into practice. Georgia provides free access to public preschool education. Our goal is to give every child, regardless of their family background, a fair and healthy start in life.
In addition, public preschool institutions provide fully funded food and nutrition programs, which help to ensure that basic education is accompanied by proper health and care for the child. This removes a hidden financial burden from low-income families.
As for public general education in Georgia, it is also free. The state provides public school students with free textbooks and digital educational resources, and first-graders receive Personal portable computers equipped with cognitive educational programs designed specifically for children.
