Batumi is hosting the Georgian International Maritime Forum (GIMF 2026). The forum’s official opening ceremony was addressed by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominguez, and the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zurab Pataradze.

The Chairman of the Government noted that Batumi is increasingly establishing itself as a business city that hosts large-scale international forums and important events. According to him, the maritime sector is one of the most important strategic directions for Adjara, and today’s forum will contribute to strengthening regional cooperation and introducing modern standards.

“Today, our region and the city of Batumi are increasingly associated with development and progress and are establishing themselves as a business city. Batumi has established this image through large-scale events, international forums and important initiatives. At all stages of the history and development of our city, the sea factor has been of particular importance. Back in the late 19th century, the city was granted the status of Porto Franco, which strengthened its international importance and Georgia’s transit potential. The rapidly growing economy, attracting investments, modern infrastructure, and opportunities, is the result of the great support that the Georgian government is providing to strengthen our region. One of the proofs of this is today’s forum, which brings together experts from different countries and representatives of international organizations. The main message of the forum once again emphasizes that maritime ties are an important strategic necessity. The maritime sector is one of the most important directions for Adjara – our region is known internationally as a maritime center of education and a center for professional training of seafarers,” said Zurab Pataradze.

Batumi will host the International Maritime Forum “Where Seas Meet Corridors” on September 7-8. About 300 delegates from different countries are participating in the event. The main topics of the event are the development opportunities of the Middle Corridor, regional connectivity, innovations, sustainable maritime transport, and strengthening public-private partnerships.

The forum is attended by secretaries-general of international organizations, ministers of various countries, heads of maritime administrations, representatives of international financial institutions, the private sector, and academic circles.
